The San Franciscan Monks
welshby:
Weekends in San Francisco, at length. Hopefully it’s as close as possible to us sitting at a table with you, sharing about what God’s been doing.

Hope it’s a blessing for you.
Unapproachable Light: Peace →
It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he…
Truth and Love...
The reason for his rich friendship is not far to seek. People knew just where they stood with him. Deceit was utterly foreign to his nature. When his friends were wrong, he told them so without mincing matters, and the closer the friend, the blunter his criticisms. Farel chafed under this plainness, but got only the reply: “I entreat you, my dear brother, when I expostulate with you, chide you,...

God has just been so gracious to me recently. I’ve been struggling really hard to find peace related to a big aspect of my future recently. And for a week straight (as of now), God has literally sent one person everyday to somehow encourage me, whether intentionally or unintentionally, mostly the second. It’s just such a big blessing to me.

Everybody wants to be loved. Whether we admit it or not, all of us have this natural desire to feel adored and appreciated by others. Many of us spend our entire lives searching for someone to love us, in hopes that somebody- anybody- will satisfy this longing inside.
Well if you’re planning to…

“God spoke to me in the car. I wept. It can’t be the same anymore.”
P: But it’s just money! It’s just a car, a ring, a house. I don’t get why it’s that hard. These things all pass away, right? A brand new car today, a wreck of metal tomorrow. A house now, rubble later.
P: But God, that’s my car. That’s my future marriage on the line. I want to design my own house and pimp it...

So I battled last night. I went in to it thinking, “How do I glorify God through this dance?” I decided to battle while wearing a christian t shirt. Okay, cool.
Fast forward to the battles. This one bboy shows up, and he has a bible with him. In a dance form with little to no presence of God, a…
That’s legit. Love seeing people honor God in all that they do.
I usually like coming up with a phrase for the title that kind of captures my thoughts, but I honestly can’t for this. I’m just humbled tonight by how God is sovereign. How he can use non-believers to rebuke me and keep me in His way. Praise be to the Lord!
Get up!
4 So about three thousand men went up there from the people. And they fled before the men of Ai, 5 and the men of Ai killed about thirty-six of their men and chased them before the gate as far as Shebarim and struck them at the descent. And the hearts of the people melted and became as water.

Wretched man...
21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

Dreams of a seven year old
When I was seven, I had an interesting dream. I dreamed I was in a movie theater watching a movie with a girl. However, neither of us were actually watching the movie, we were looking at each other. Since it was dark, I couldn’t see her face, but I knew she was my wife. Then I woke up.
Pretty strange dream for a seven year old eh? A lot of boys may have thought that girls had cooties at...
Heartbreak memorial stones?
Then Joshua called the twelve men from each tribe of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe. And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people if Israel, that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to...

Merry Christmas?
It’s been pretty interesting coming home for Christmas. Most of my family is together for the first time in a year and a half. We’ll be complete after new years, when Joyce comes home. This year, mainly this semester, has been the first time where I’ve really contemplated these big holidays that we, as believers, celebrate. And Christmas has been no exception.
I first began...

no matter how horrible that person was.
Unless it’s my own!
I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.
Lose your life to gain it.
Agreed to both.

Thanksgiving
Tonight was quite the night. Not only was there good turkey, but there were very good reminders. At the start of this week I had planned on writing a tumblr tonight about how this holiday is not about family or turkey or black friday as society has made it, but it’s about being thankful for what God has done.
Not surprisingly, God showed this to me today in a very real way. The first was...

Great post from Kevin DeYoung about young men and marriage. Read it!
Good article. He starts to touch on it, but what’s most important is our relationship with God, whether we’re guys or girls. The rest, including marriage and being a Godly spouse, comes from that.
Hope
shimm:
Hope is an impenetrable fortress. No one can take this stronghold called Hope. Indeed, no one ever has taken Hope from anyone. But many… many have given up Hope. Many have surrendered Hope to the enemies of Hope, the enemies of what is good and right.
Never stop hoping for what God has promised.
Never stop believing His Word.
Never surrender Hope.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck...Morewood
After ACF info session today, I was putting away stuff in UC 303, when I looked out the window and realized that house wars was starting and the freshman were making their entrances. As the mob increased and the united chanting of each freshman dorm began, another upperclassman next to me made an interesting comment. He said:
“This is the last semblance of community you will ever...
The Burning Bush
Tonight I watched the Prince of Egypt with John. This was the nth time for me, the first time for John. One part of this movie has always been very special to me, as the title of this post suggests, it’s the burning bush scene. However, watching it was a little bit different from before. The scene goes:

I have a friend who grew up with a lot of Korean friends. He himself was Chinese. He told me a story once of when he was in 5th grade. At the time, he still didn’t know that there were other Asians besides Chinese and Japanese. As a result, he had a quite comical dialogue when his friend told him he was Korean:
Korean friend: I’m Korean.

Broken
I was reminded today while we were taking communion of my brokenness. As I took the bread (cracker), it broke into two. Then when I took the cup, it cracked and almost spilled.
How appropriate for God to use these two images to remind me of how broken I am. That I am a sinner who left on his own would destroy himself. Yet it was in this state that God reached down and redeemed me. He pulled me...
